The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has apologised to Klottey Korle MP, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, and her family over the “daughter of a murderer” remark directed at her.
Additionally, he extended his apology to the Anlo Traditional Council, which had expressed outrage over the incident and demanded immediate action.
“In light of this incident, I extend my deepest apologies to Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana and widow of our late industrious President, the family, the chiefs, and all the good people of Anlo Dukor and Anlo land,” Bagbin said on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday.
He further expressed his regret, stating, “It is a sad situation when one serving their country must endure such indignity.”
The Speaker’s apology follows an incident on February 4, 2025, when an unidentified MP was heard making the remark during a parliamentary session.
While Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House, calling for calm amid heated discussions surrounding the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah, a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”
The voice was alleged to be that of Damongo MP, Samuel Abu Jinapor. However, he has denied the claims, insisting such language is not characteristic of him.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has given the MP a one-week ultimatum to own up while a formal investigation is underway.
