Speaker adjourns sitting indefinitely

-

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, adjourned the House indefinitely.

The decision comes in the wake of controversy surrounding the declaration of four seats vacant.

The Speaker cited that the House has the quorum to transact the business of the day but not to take decisions as the reason for adjournment but did not announce how many lawmakers were present.

However, Mr. Bagbin acknowledged that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court to stay the execution on the declaration of the vacant seats.

This was after a contentious morning in the Chamber that saw disputes between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs over the composition of the Majority.

The NPP MPs abandoned the chamber before the Speaker’s arrival.

This adjournment leaves a number of government business, including the vote on account thus the first quarter budget for 2025 in limbo.
