Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hawa Koomson, has strongly refuted allegations circulating on social media and via text messages that she has distributed GHC 1,800 and sewing machines to security officers and constituents in Kasoa to secure their votes.
Speaking to Adom News, Madam Koomson stated, “This is completely false. I have not given out any money or sewing machines to anyone, including security officers. These claims are propaganda from my opponents and should be disregarded.”
The alleged message, purportedly sent by her, reads:
“I hope you remember the GHC 1,800 in total and the sewing machine together with other items that I gave you. As a token of appreciation, I expect you to vote massively for me. VOTE NUMBER 1. OBAATANPA ALL THE WAY!!!”
Her campaign team, through a statement signed by Michael Addy, Constituency Secretary, also dismissed the claims, labeling them as fabricated.
The statement read:
“The attention of Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson’s campaign team has been drawn to a scam message purporting to come from her. We categorically deny that Hon. Koomson has given out GHC 1,800 or sewing machines to security personnel. This is fake propaganda from the NDC designed to create tension within the security agencies. Ghanaians should disregard such frivolous messages.”
Currently, both Hon. Koomson and the NDC Parliamentary candidate, Philis Naa Koryoo, are acting as polling agents in the elections.
Hon. Koomson further assured the public of her commitment to ensuring a peaceful election in Kasoa.
“I am committed to a peaceful process and encourage everyone to uphold peace,” she emphasized.
This development highlights the need for vigilance against misinformation during the election period.
Meanwhile, in the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region, 1,298 people are casting their votes.
