President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to transform the Osu Castle and its surrounding areas into a major tourist attraction as part of efforts to boost Ghana’s tourism sector.

During his 2025 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, the President revealed that the former seat of government would be redeveloped into a pedestrian-friendly precinct featuring arts and craft markets, as well as a jewelry and gold market.

He emphasized the importance of tourism, culture, and the creative arts in Ghana’s national development strategy, highlighting their role in job creation, cultural exchange, and economic growth.

In his address, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging these sectors to stimulate the economy.

The President also outlined several key initiatives, including the flagship programme The Black Star Experience, which aims to position Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the global diaspora.

This initiative will offer carefully curated cultural, historical, and creative arts experiences, facilitated through partnerships with the private sector, diplomatic missions, and various government agencies.
