SONA 2025: NSS to include short military training – Mahama
-

President John Mahama has announced plans to introduce short military training as part of the National Service Scheme (NSS) to promote fitness and discipline among the youth.
Speaking during the 2025 State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, he said the government is working to strengthen the legal framework governing national service.
“I have tasked the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment to present a legislative instrument to Parliament to support the implementation of the newly passed National Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 119),” Mahama stated.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to tackling corruption within the scheme, revealing that investigations are ongoing into a ghost names scandal, with culprits set to face justice.
“As part of ORAL, I have ordered investigations to bring the culprits in the national service ghost names scandal to justice,” he added.
