The Eastern Region Coordinator for Small Scale Miners, Mr Daniel Nyame, has made alarming revelations about the involvement of large-scale mining companies in illegal mining activities (Galamsey).
Speaking on Burning Issues on Adom FM, hosted by Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom (ABY), Mr. Nyame disclosed that some large-scale miners lease parts of their concessions to illegal miners.
“It is not the small-scale companies that work there. It is the large-scale mining companies that have given their land to illegal miners to work,” Mr. Nyame stated.
He added that, despite the illegal activities, the Minerals Commission is aware of the situation but fails to intervene.
Interestingly, passersby often mistake these activities as small-scale mining, but the reality, according to Mr. Nyame, is that Galamsey operators have been granted access to these lands by large-scale concession holders.
