Some musicians are ungrateful – Ghanaian producer opens up

-

One of Ghana’s respected producers, Benjamin Garzy Mensah aka Mix Master Garzy, who has made beats for most of the top musicians in Ghana and other international acts, has opened up on how ungrateful some of the acts can be.

According to him, some musicians don’t go by the contract terms with him when it comes to producing beats for them.

The saddest part, according to Mix Master Garzy, is “when they don’t pay producers but go ahead to pay video directors and media houses to hype the song.

“At times there is a verbal agreement between us. But, with that if it goes through, they don’t pick calls anymore until they [musicians] need you again. They tell different stories.

“If you try to go hard on them, they won’t talk to you or say something else about you to other people because they get free beats in their email,” he said.

The sound engineer also revealed that most of the up-and-coming music producers have equally complained to him.

“They will be like because we did one song, he is bringing a contract to sign. They are failing to see. They are willing to rather sign with international contracts. Almost all the producers don’t take royalties. All the songs they [musicians] put on iTunes and online portals, they enjoy alone. Professionally, it’s supposed to be 50-50. Its not done like that on the other side of the world,” the producer explained on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, monitored by Adomonline.com on Wednesday.
