Al legal small-scale miners in the country will soon be given identification cards and uniforms for their operations.
Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee against Galamsey, Charles Bissiw made this known on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Friday.
He said the new mining concession agreement committee will make sure that at the end of the new registration process, the government will know how many concessions there are in each district, how many excavators they have there and the number of miners there.

He added that vetting was going to start soon and urged all small-scale miners can bring their licences.
In addition to the uniforms, Mr Bissiw said the government will give every miner an ID card with a digitised bar code, a unique number and a TIN as the miners are also insured.
Mr Bissiw also said miners who have licenses but do not have enough money for transportation should call their office for assistance.

He advised the miners and mining companies to adhere to the mining regulations or risk losing the committee’s office licence.
“The minerals beneath the surface of the earth belong to the state, the licence given to the companies can be withdrawn at any time [if they flout the rules],” he stated.

The Akufo-Addo-led government, since March 2017, banned all small-scale mining across the country.
The inter-ministerial committee on mining was set up to deal with the menace of illegal small-scale mining.
The committee is currently working on a roadmap to lift the ban on small-scale mining.
