Former Asante Kotoko midfielder and renowned coach, Ibrahim Sunday believes it will be a mistake to show coach Avram Grant the exit before the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
Doubts have been raised about the future of the former Chelsea and West Ham manager after failing to win five matches in a row. Many have called on the Ghana Football Association to sack him after losing to Egypt in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Alexandria.
Football fans are calling for the return of James Akwasi Appiah, less than two months to the start of the AFCON in Gabon but Sunday Ibrahim claims it will be suicidal if the Ghana Football Association shows Avram Grant the exit.
“Currently, we know Grant has a contract with the team and was mandated to win the AFCON trophy in 2017. He has not even gone to the AFCON and everyone is saying he should be sacked. How on earth can that happen?” he fumed.
“We have few months to go to the AFCON, we should wait after the tourney to decide if he will continue as the head coach or not and even, maybe, he might win the Cup. I really think we should think about it before relieving him of his duties.”
