Seven medics at KNUST Hospital qualify as specialists

Seven doctors from the University Hospital, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have been inducted as Members of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons at a ceremony in Accra.

This feat is in line with the hospital’s quest to provide excellent patient-centered care by highly skilled health professionals.

Five of the specialists are permanent hospital staff, while two completed their postgraduate training at the hospital. The 7 doctors who have qualified as specialists are;

Dr. Eric Kojo Nsa Oduro – Family Medicine; Dr. Vitalis Saadaare – Family Medicine and Dr. Francis Kobina Baidoo – General Surgery.

The rest are: Dr. Raymond Addo-Tham – Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Dr. Phillip Frimpong – Oral Pathology; Dr. (Mrs) Betty Nkansah Osei-Mensah – Paediatrics and Dr. (Mrs) Brenda Abena Ampah – Radiology

The Director of University Health Services, Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng, who served as Training Coordinator for 9 years before his new role, acknowledged that this is the highest number of specialists produced by the hospital in a single year.

He however praised his predecessor, Dr. Osei Kwaku Wusu-Ansah for providing opportunities for the doctors to pursue postgraduate training and spearheading the accreditation of the hospital for training in Family Medicine, General Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr. Ayisi-Boateng there implored them to apply their knowledge, skills and expertise to train junior colleagues, serve the University community and improve the lives of their patients.
