Multimedia Group Limited Journalists Seth Kwame Boateng and Joseph Opoku Gakpo have been shortlisted for the special award category of the MTN Heroes of Change awards.
The fourth season of the MTN Heroes of Change has seen the addition of a special category which will reward two media and entertainment personalities for their contribution to society through their social projects. The winners will each receive special awards to be invested in any corporate social responsibility project of their choice.

Apart from Opoku Gakpo and Kwame Boateng, musician Okyeame Kwame, as well as actors Yvonne Nelson and Yvonne Okoro have also been shortlisted for the special award category. Kwame Boateng was shortlisted for the impact of his documentary “Next To Die.” It highlighted the poor conditions expectant mothers have to endure at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, leading to the death of many. The story resulted in the raising of 10 million cedis to build an ultra-modern maternity facility for the hospital.
“You don’t have to start big. You start with the little you have…. You have no idea the number of lives you can impact. I am doing my bit by highlighting the issues of the under privileged and deprived and helping get results for them,” Kwame Boateng told the MTN Heroes of Change series.

Opoku Gakpo was shortlisted for the impact that his documentary “Jungle Poor” made. The documentary highlighted the high level of deprivation and poverty in Nyitavuta, a community in the Volta Region which lacked all basic amenities. The story resulted various organisations providing the community with solar panels, solar lanterns, clean source of water, school block, vocational training and other social amenities.
“I have come to believe over the years that money is not actually everything… the talents, the skills that we have, have ways of helping us change situations….” Opoku Gakpo told the Heroes of Change Series.

The MTN Heroes of Change programme recognises selfless people who sacrifice their time and resources to improve their communities. The final 10 nominees for the main competition are Ayisha Fuseini, Dr. Quincy Attipoe, Emmanuel Aferi Annobil, Josephine Agbo-Nettey, Serwah Quaynor, Naomi Esi Arku Amoah, Dr. Dzifa Dey, Prince Oduro Williams, Rev. Mrs Sanatu Nantogma and Linat Osman Kundaribuo.
Selected winners for the categories of Health, Education and Economic Empowerment will be recognized with cash prize of GH₵30,000 each and a plaque. The grand award of GH₵100,000 will be given to the ultimate winner. The final of the events come off tonight at the Accra International Conference Center.
