Semenyo equals Essien’s Premier League goal tally

-

Antoine Semenyo has matched Michael Essien’s tally of Premier League goals after firing AFC Bournemouth to a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

The Ghanaian forward struck just 53 seconds into the encounter at the Vitality Stadium, ending the Cherries’ six-game winless streak with a decisive, low-driven effort.

The goal marked Semenyo’s eighth of the season — his best-ever return in a single Premier League campaign — and his 17th overall in the English top flight since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City.

With the strike, the 25-year-old moves level with Chelsea legend Michael Essien on the all-time list of Ghanaian Premier League scorers, sitting joint-fifth.

Semenyo now trails only Andre Ayew (21 goals), Jeffrey Schlupp (22), Tony Yeboah (24), and Jordan Ayew (41) on the all-time Ghanaian scorers’ chart.

Bournemouth’s victory lifts them to eighth place on the league table, just six points adrift of seventh-placed Aston Villa, keeping their hopes of a strong finish alive.

Semenyo will aim to build on his fine form when Bournemouth travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace next Saturday.
