A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Totobi Quakyi, has asserted that Sekondi experienced significant development only under NDC administrations.
Speaking at the campaign launch of Blay Nyamekye Armah, the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate for Sekondi, he highlighted key contributions made by the NDC government during the Rawlings era.
These include the construction of the Albert Bosumtwi Sam Fishing Harbour and the Sekondi Railways, both of which generated numerous jobs in the area.
Totobi Quakyi criticized New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for stalling Sekondi’s development, arguing that they have failed to build on the strong foundation laid by the NDC.
He noted that, little progress has been made in economic and infrastructural growth since the NPP took office.
He called on Sekondi residents to support NDC Presidential Candidate John Mahama and Parliamentary Candidate Blay Nyamekye Armah in the 2024 elections, stating that an NDC victory would be essential for reviving development in the region and promoting sustainable progress.
Recalling the establishment of the Albert Bosumtwi Sam Fishing Harbour, Totobi Quakyi shared, “The late MP Albert Bosumtwi Sam and I went to Japan, where he suggested we convince the Japanese to help us build a fishing harbour in Sekondi. That’s how we got the Albert Bosumtwi Sam Fishing Harbour, named in his honour.”
He questioned the current state of development in Sekondi claiming that, “Since Albert left office, what major projects have we seen? They built an AstroTurf, but does it create jobs? You exercise on it after working, but real, lasting development in Sekondi-Takoradi has always come from the NDC.”
“John Mahama brought the Takoradi Port Expansion project, and the late Atta Mills initiated the Sekondi-Kojokrom railway project. When the NDC is in power, we bring progress,” he added.
