Ghanaian highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata was mentioned in a speech by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association.
During his address, the Asantehene quoted the phrase ‘Obi nya way3’ from Kinaata’s popular song ‘Susuka,’ to stress the importance of appreciating Ghana.
He pointed out that, despite the country’s challenges, many nations aspire to be like Ghana, urging citizens to reflect on the profound lyrics of Kofi Kinaata.
The Asantehene praised the exceptional wisdom found in the works of musicians like Kinaata, stating, “I can think of many countries that look up to Ghana and wish they were just like us.
Sometimes, listen to the wisdom of our musicians and reflect on a piece like Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Obi nyaway3,’ which means ‘Someone wishes they were like you.’”
His remarks were met with applause, recognizing Otumfuo’s endorsement.
Overjoyed, Kofi Kinaata shared the Asantehene’s commendation on social media, captioning it, “Auntie Ama eeiii… I have made it!! #KofiOOKofi.” Fellow musicians also joined in the comments, celebrating this significant recognition.
This is not the first time Kinaata has received praise from notable figures; Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has previously named him her favourite musician.
