In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), she stated, “The next President of Ghana is Bawumia. Bookmark this tweet, give praises to God after the election. It is the doing of the Lord.”

Her assertion has sparked heated debates online, with some accusing her of being bribed to endorse the NPP candidate.

However, Efia Odo, dismissed the allegations.

She clarified that her statement was not an endorsement but a prediction.

“I didn’t say I’m voting for Bawumia; I said he’s winning the election. Even if I tweeted Mahama or Cheddar is winning, you would’ve said I’ve taken a bribe,” she responded.

Kumawood is not dead, everyone is just busy – Vivian Jill https://www.adomonline.com/kumawood-is-not-dead-everyone-is-just-busy-vivian-jill/ Sat, 30 Nov 2024 16:58:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477638 Popular Kumawood actress and producer Vivian Jill has reassured fans that the Kumawood film industry is far from dead, despite the challenges it faces.

In a recent viral interview, Vivian explained that while the industry continues to produce movies, it has become increasingly difficult to bring together many top actors for a single project due to their busy schedules.

“Right now, everyone is busy. Even I am about to start a new project,” she said. “If you call anyone, they are all occupied. I recently worked on a project and tried to reach Nana Ama McBrown, but she was tied up with something else. I called Mathilda, and she was also on set. Last week, I needed another actress, but she couldn’t make it because she was also on set.”

She dismissed the notion that Kumawood is struggling, attributing the perceived slowdown to the bustling schedules of its stars. “It’s not that there’s an issue with Kumawood or the industry. Everyone is just busy,” she clarified.

Vivian also expressed optimism about the future of Kumawood, revealing plans for a major project aimed at bringing top talents such as Agya Koo and Lil Win together.

“It’s just a matter of getting everyone at once. But we’ll definitely be doing something big to show that Kumawood is still here and thriving,” she added.

Her comments come amidst ongoing concerns about the state of the Kumawood industry, with critics citing challenges like economic hardships, lack of support, and even allegations of witchcraft as possible factors.

Vivian’s reassurance serves as a positive message to fans, affirming that Kumawood remains vibrant and ready to shine again.

LilWin explains why he’ll never endorse any political party https://www.adomonline.com/lilwin-explains-why-hell-never-endorse-any-political-party/ Sat, 30 Nov 2024 12:20:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2477606 LilWin, known in private life as Kwadwo Nkansah, has revealed why he’ll never endorse any political party like other celebrities.

He said he’s not interested in accepting money from politicians to endorse them because, in Ghana, most people do not understand politics.

“It’s not every money that I have to go and take, but the little that God has given me, I like it that way. Besides, in Ghana, we don’t understand politics,” he said on Cape Coast’s Property FM.

“In America, you can see celebrities endorsing Trump or Harris, but here in Ghana, when you decide to do the same, it becomes a big issue.

“In Ghana, people seem to hate or dislike you when you decide to endorse or publicly affiliate with a political party as a public figure or celebrity,” he posited, as MyNewsGh.com reported.

“Apart from acting, I have a school that I’m managing, so being affiliated with the NDC or NPP might be problematic, but it shouldn’t have been so,” he added in a one-on-one interview with Amansan Krakye.

In a motivational one-on-one interview on Cape Coast-based Property FM, the comic actor urged listeners not to let negative comments deter them from pursuing their dreams.

“When I started acting, people said I wasn’t good enough to be counted among funny comedians,” Nkansah recalled. “They mocked me, but by the time they realized it, God had lifted me to be recognized as one of the best in the industry, and it’s all by the grace of God.”

He also reflected on the early challenges he faced playing roles as an old man in movies.

“When I started acting as an old man, people ridiculed me, saying my efforts were senseless,” he said in an interview with Amansan Krakye. “But now, people love it when I play an elderly character, and the same happened when I introduced dancing in movies.”

Nkansah emphasized the importance of perseverance, stating, “So everything that people used to discourage me, God turned it into a blessing. Never let what others say make you lose hope.”

She says the journey is eternal, and there is no turning back.

Speaking to Akrobeto on Accra-based United Television, Efia Odo indicated that she has turned a new leaf and intends to live purely during this period.

However, a change in her fashion sense will take some time because she is of the firm opinion that giving your life to Christ is about having a pure heart and not necessarily about what one wears.

“I’ve given my whole life to Christ. I’m born again with the Holy Spirit. God’s time is divine, so it was God’s time to come into the fullness of Himself. This is eternal; it is till eternity, everlasting,” she said.

Efia Odo declares new faith, embraces Christ-centred life https://www.adomonline.com/efia-odo-declares-new-faith-embraces-christ-centred-life/ Mon, 25 Nov 2024 04:35:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2475151 Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has announced that she has turned a new page in her life, declaring herself born again and devoted to a Christ-centred path.

Speaking candidly on the Konnected Minds Podcast, Efia shared insights into her spiritual transformation, emphasising her commitment to living intentionally in alignment with her newfound faith.

“I was reading Proverbs before coming. I want to feed my soul with the spirit of God because the word of God is perfect,” she said.

“People were supposed to see who I was so they could see where I was going. Even though I am already at where I am going, I believe I am already there.”

Efia explained that her previous search for love and fulfilment in worldly desires has now been replaced with a deeper connection to Christ.

“All I have is God because we would lose our parents one day. The love I was seeking in the world, I find it in Christ, so I no longer seek and desire things of the world. What God has planned for me is different from what people think about me,” she noted.

Addressing her past actions, Efia insisted that everything she did was with good intentions, adding that her journey has shaped her resilience and brought her closer to her current faith.

“Everything that I did was from good intentions. I believe I am a child of God and the light of the world, then I can’t believe in darkness. So everything that I have done, I did it with good intentions; that is why I am boldly sitting where I am now,” she said.

Efia also touched on how she deals with negative labels such as being tagged a “slay queen,” maintaining that she reframes such terms positively.

“Everything is positive around me. You might see the word slay queen and have a negative feeling attached to it because that is how you operate. But I would see slay queen and look at it from a different perspective. I operate in positivity, so every word you would say to me, I operate it into positivity,” she explained.

Efia’s declaration of faith has sparked mixed reactions among her fans and followers, with some praising her for prioritising her spiritual journey.

Fiaga of Dodome implores residents to unite for development https://www.adomonline.com/fiaga-of-dodome-implores-residents-to-unite-for-development/ Mon, 11 Nov 2024 14:37:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2470660 The Fiaga of Dodome Traditional Area in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, Togbe Kpangbatriku IV, has called on all people in his jurisdiction to work towards unity and development with commitment and dedication.

According to him, it is an undeniable fact that there is dignity and honor in community service, so it is important for everyone to get involved in the development of Dodome.

Speaking at the 2024 Dodome Agadzi Festival, he said it is his vision to promote education in Dodome.

“It is a fact that no community in Dodome has a second-cycle institution, and it is therefore my fervent desire to have a Technical/Vocational Institute in one of our communities. This will enable young citizens to access technical and vocational skills so they can enter the world of work.

“Thank God we have an Educational Board in place, which is the Dodome Education Endowment Fund (DODEEF). I therefore charge DODEEF to develop policy guidelines toward achieving the dream of establishing a Technical/Vocational Training School in Dodome in the not-too-distant future,” Togbe Kpangbatriku IV said.

In addition to the school, he noted his next focus would be on discipline.

“It is through discipline that progress is achieved. Indiscipline has started to rear its ugly head in our communities of late. Over the years, Dodome has been a reference point in terms of discipline among its neighbors.

“Today, what we are witnessing has no bearing on the status of what Dodome used to be, and we cannot achieve the theme of the festival amidst indiscipline. Dodome can no longer boast of its historic and patriotic achievers. We need to reverse the trend of disrespect toward authority,” he stated.

He continued, “I am urging the ‘Sorhefiawo’ (Youth Chiefs) to be up to the task in fighting indiscipline in the various communities. My chiefs should equally be up to the agenda of instilling and upholding fairness in their customary adjudication toward the youth. This will go a long way to cure the sense of bias and selective judgment towards the youth, which breeds indiscipline against the Traditional Authorities.”

He seized the opportunity to call on the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ho West, noting that the community’s utmost desire is to see the completion of the road linking Dzolo-Gbogame with Kpedze through Dodome towns. He appealed to the DCE’s office to ensure the early completion of this stalled road project.

He appealed to the politicians, saying that as the 2024 election approaches, they should make it a point to assist in any developmental projects the community decides to execute.

He also called on the residents not to allow any politician to bring disunity among them before or after the elections.

On his part, the Member of Parliament for the Ho West Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Bedzrah, also delivered a speech at the ceremony, praising the Dodome community as one of the best in the constituency, where prominent individuals come from.

He expressed his disappointment with the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Yao Archibald Letsa, for not joining the Dodome community in celebrating their historic festival.

He called on the residents of Dodome to vote massively for John Dramani Mahama as the next president of Ghana and to retain Mr. Bedzrah to continue the developmental projects in the constituency.

The festival was held under the theme, “Unity, Commitment, and Development.”

On Monday, November 4, 2024, Shatta Wale took to X (formerly Twitter) during a spaces dialogue to express his displeasure over Black Sherif’s Snapchat post, which featured a photo of Shatta Wale with a comment on his dressing style.

Shatta Wale noted that Black Sherif, known for hits like “Kilos Milos” and “Kweku The Traveller,” should tread carefully when addressing him in the music industry.

He asserted that any disrespect would prompt swift action, potentially ending Black Sherif’s career. (Read also: Efia Odo and I shared the same bed with no sexual activity – Shatta Wale, I recorded “On God” with angels in my room, says Shatta Wale)

“Black Sherif, you are new in the music industry. If you’ve heard them say I have said something about you, you won’t go and watch the podcast to know the good things I said about you.

“Blacko, this is the same thing Sarkodie did; now people think he is my enemy. Go and ask; I can end careers, and if you don’t take care, I will end yours,” he said.

It is recalled that on Thursday, October 31, 2024, Shatta Wale, during a conversation on the Bant, Rants and Confessions podcast hosted by Efia Odo, expressed his dissatisfaction with Black Sherif’s style of dressing, stating that the singer could do better with his appearance.

It seemed the gesture didn’t sit well with Black Sherif, who posted a picture of Shatta Wale with the caption “I plaster everywhere” on Snapchat.

Anti-galamsey demo: I’ve learnt to be wise and calm – Glenn Samm on arrest https://www.adomonline.com/anti-galamsey-demo-ive-learnt-to-be-wise-and-calm-protester-on-arrest/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 15:35:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2460653 Ghanaian artist and founder of Tsadidi Street Art Festival, Glenn Samm, who was part of the 53 people that got arrested after taking part in the ‘StopGalamseyNow’ protest has recounted what he went through while in police custody.

Speaking to Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM about the lessons he has learnt from the whole encounter, Glenn said: “I’ve learnt in everything just be wise and keep calm.”

He explained that his calm nature always got him composed even though he faced uncomfortable situations.

Recounting how his arrest happened, Glenn said he was seated at the bus stop at the El Wak Sports Stadium when he got picked up by the police.

“Monday, the protest didn’t even happen because we heard they were arresting some of our people. So me, I was just sitting at the bus stop.

If I am sitting at El Wak, that is not part of the protest grounds,” he noted.

According to Glenn, he felt the Police had people of interest they were looking for and that they probably came for him because of his looks.

He said for the 16 days that he was kept in police custody, he was shuffled between three Police cells in Accra.

A few weeks ago, some 53 people were picked up by the police for various infractions after protesting against illegal mining in Ghana.

This caused a lot of uproar among some Ghanaians who believed the punishments meted out to the protesters were “high-handed.”

Glenn Samm was among the protesters who were granted bail after being remanded for about two weeks.

According to him, some influencers who led the recent Democracy Hub demo among other earlier protests, were paid by politicians to involve their opinions.

He explained that, the recent brouhaha by Ghanaians on illegal mining destroying water bodies has been exaggerated to influence voters in the upcoming December 7 elections.

“Ibe so nooorr u guys come with fix the country and got @efiaodo arrested …Stop this Nonesense cause this country can only get better if we join hands as citizens and not politicize things …Think ooo think … Some ppl go collect coins to come and influence you ……SMH…..Influencers with no brains … cheap Job to finish your own brothers and sisters mcheewww!![SIC]” He wrote on X.

The dancehall musician has been slamming Ghanaians who are joining the galamsey fight, saying:

“Bro Galamsey was there before they born you shut for there … what is happening now is politics and if you don’t know anything about politics find something to do quickly and make money …. You can’t fight Ghana alone, you will every Ghanaian to do that, that is what we call demonstration…F**l,” he told one social media user who clapped back at him.

Throwing more lights on the history of Galamsey in Ghana, Shatta Wale had this to say:

“Galamsey was for family’s who inherited lands from our great grandfathers until the politician brought in foreigners to take it by force from them and sold it to these foreigners to make profits for for their own selfish gains … So you want to tell me the youth in kumasi ,Obuasi etc are the ones causing the Galamsey problems right ..Herrh Accra boys [SIC]”

Additionally, Shatta Wale said the type of demonstrations that are organized in the country have no effect on the incumbency.

“They will go and demonstrate on the street and go and dance and come back and say they have accomplished their mission .. You think you can use 3 months to solve Ghana problem mcheewwww…Time wasters [SIC].”

I want to settle down, have kids but… – Efia Odo https://www.adomonline.com/i-want-to-settle-down-have-kids-but-efia-odo/ Sat, 21 Sep 2024 16:42:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2452007 Ghanaian actress and socialite, Efia Odo, has opened up about her desire to settle down and start a family.

However, she is facing a major obstacle, which is some men only seeing her as an object for sex.

In a recent interview, Efia expressed her frustration, saying, “As I grow older, I yearn for a meaningful relationship and children. But unfortunately, people only think of one thing when it comes to me – sex.”

She revealed that, even innocent interactions with men including male artistes are often misinterpreted.

“Whenever I’m spotted with a male, whether it’s an artist or friend, people assume I’m involved with them romantically or sexually.

“It’s like I can’t even male friend because most of these men, they would want to have sex with me if they found themselves in that position,” she stated.

Mahama demands immediate release of provisional voter’s register https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-demands-immediate-release-of-provisional-voters-register/ Sat, 17 Aug 2024 12:25:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435200

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the Electoral Commission for not providing political parties with copies of the provisional voter register ahead of its voter exhibition exercise.

During a campaign event in Sogakope on Friday, Mr. Mahama pointed out that the Commission had requested parties to submit their external drives for the register in July, yet has not made the register available.

By the end of the day on Friday, political parties had still not received the provisional voter register, and the Commission has not offered any explanation for the delay.

“I want to draw the attention of the Electoral Commission (EC), In July they asked all political parties to bring their hard drives so they can give us a copy of the provisional voter’s register. The exhibition of the register starts in 4 days, we should have received those provisional registers by now so that we can help our members check if their names are there.”

“I’m calling on the EC to make sure that we get the hard drives with the provisional register today [Friday, August 16], so that we can send them to our constituencies and let our executives start helping the people check and make sure their names are there.“

Joyce Bawah Mogtari slams Akufo-Addo government for neglecting Volta Region https://www.adomonline.com/joyce-bawah-mogtari-slams-akufo-addo-government-for-neglecting-volta-region/ Sat, 17 Aug 2024 11:49:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435188 The spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has criticized the Akufo-Addo-led administration for what she claims is a deliberate failure to provide the Volta Region with its fair share of national development.

Speaking during the NDC’s campaign tour of the region, Mrs. Mogtari expressed outrage over what she described as the neglect, punishment, and hardships inflicted on the people of the Volta Region by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The NDC team, led by flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, has spent four days visiting major constituencies in the Volta Region as part of the first phase of their campaign tour.

According to the team, their assessments reveal significant neglect in the region under the current administration.

Mogtari stated, “The Akufo-Addo-led regime has no interest in giving the Volta Region the comfort it deserves. We have seen numerous neglected projects and an economic downturn in the region, which clearly points to the government’s lack of commitment to the people here.”

She urged the people of the Volta Region to remain hopeful and consider voting for the NDC for a positive change.

“We believe that the Volta Region will vote massively for the NDC in this year’s elections to bring about the much-needed turnaround,” Mogtari added.

Foreign homosexuality laws not applicable to Ghana — Supreme Court

]]>
Foreign homosexuality laws not applicable to Ghana — Supreme Court https://www.adomonline.com/foreign-homosexuality-laws-not-applicable-to-ghana-supreme-court/ Sat, 17 Aug 2024 10:10:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435164 The Supreme Court has held that the fact that some countries have legalised homosexuality through judicial pronouncement and legislation does not mean Ghana should apply those laws, stressing that homosexuality and other forms of unnatural carnal knowledge remain a crime under the laws of the country.

In a judgment detailing why it upheld the law criminalising unnatural carnal knowledge, the apex court held that it could not simply accept foreign laws which were not in tune with the values of the country, or were at variance with the laws of the country, particularly the 1992 Constitution.

“The law’s utility thus becomes waste if it is just transportation of alien cultural values and ideas which have no foundation at all with the peculiar social factors in our legal system,” the court held.

Unnatural carnal knowledge

The court held that Section 104 (1) (b) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which criminalised unnatural carnal knowledge did not violate the 1992 Constitution, and therefore any form of sexual intercourse which did not involve the “penetration with a penis into a woman’s vagina” remained a crime.

“Therefore, any sexual intercourse with a person or animal other than through the means of penetration with a penis into the female vagina is unnatural and criminalised under Section 104 of Act 29,” the court stated.

“Such situations include sodomy and bestiality which is carnally knowing an animal or where a person allows an animal to carnally know that person,” the court held.

Unanimous decision

The court made the pronouncement after throwing out a suit by the plaintiff, Dr Prince Obiri-Korang, who wanted the court to recognise the rights of homosexuals, arguing that such people were discriminated against by virtue of Section 104 (1) (b) of Act 29, and was thus unconstitutional.

Dr Obiri-Korang further argued that Section 104(1) (b) of Act 29 violated the right to privacy and liberty as respectively provided under Article 18(2) and 14(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The court held that although the plaintiff had made an extensive argument in support of his case, most of his arguments were based on laws of other countries, which could not be accepted and applied in Ghana.

The unanimous decision by the seven-member panel of the apex court, which declared Section 104(1) of Act 29 as constitutional, and thus upholding the 64-year old law criminalising unnatural carnal knowledge, was authored by Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu.

Constitution abhors homosexuality

In a concurring opinion, Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi held that the 1992 Constitution did not recognise homosexuality as argued by the plaintiff but rather upheld family and cultural values which frowned on the practice.

He cited Article 28(1) of the Constitution which enjoined Parliament to enact laws that would protect and advance the family as the “unit of society are safeguarded in promotion of the interest of children”.

Justice Kulendi wondered how the family could be created in line with the above constitutional provision if homosexuality and other forms of unnatural carnal knowledge were legalised in the country.

“It is difficult to see how the family could be created through a mode of sexual connection that threatens the most naturally ordained routes of conception.

“It is equally uncertain as to how the family may exist with such engagements of unnatural carnal knowledge in the name of upholding rights to privacy,” Justice Kulendi held.

The Supreme Court judge was also of the opinion that the various cultures and values in the country did not accept homosexuality, and since the Constitution recognised such values, Section 104(1) of Act 29 could not be said to be unconstitutional.

“It is without doubt that the question of homosexuality borders on morals and traditional values. The society’s denunciation is expressed in the criminalisation of not only homosexuality but all forms of unnatural carnal knowledge stated in Section 104 of Act 29.

This denunciation finds further expressions in other constitutional articles that promote family values. Thus, in the terms explained by the Plaintiff in this case, it is without doubt that the practice of homosexuality is unconstitutional. The criminalisation of same cannot therefore be said to be an affront to the Constitution,” Justice Kulendi added.

Privacy

The court also rejected the plaintiff’s argument that Section 104(1) (b) violated the right to privacy.

The court said the plaintiff’s argument that the law interfered with people’s privacy was untenable as such an argument could mean that the state should not criminalise certain actions which took place in private but were injurious to the public.

The right to privacy, the court added, was not absolute but subject to certain restrictions such as public safety, economic well-being of the country and public morality.

ECG gives Kejetia Market up to September 16 to settle its debt fully https://www.adomonline.com/ecg-gives-kejetia-market-up-to-september-16-to-settle-its-debt-fully/ Sat, 17 Aug 2024 09:30:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435153 The Kejetia Market in Kumasi is expected to settle its debt owed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) by September 16, 2024, premised on a scheduled repayment plan.

The facility was plunged into darkness for three days after management failed to go by the payment plan.

However, after negotiations with the power distributor to offset the over 7 million debt, the market management is expected to be consistent in the scheduled payments in the coming weeks.

Public Relations Officer for ECG-Ashanti West, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, said in an interview with David Akuetteh on Luv FM.

“By August 30 if they pay GH₵200,000 we will expect them to pay another GH₵273,000 by September 6. On 10th September, we will expect another payment which is the legacy debt. The payment plan includes the May and June bills and the debt. They are supposed to finish paying by 16th September with the exception of the July bill,” he said.

On providing separate meters for the thousands of shops at the facility, Mr Owusu Antwi explained why the proposed agreement stalled.

“A year or two ago we had a stakeholder meeting with them to ensure we give each shop a separate meter. And when we did the engineering checks, we realised they must separate the shops from the bulk meter.

“We also advised them to separate the generator from the meter else when they switch it on, that will also read into the main meter. We engaged them and gave them that advice. We were expecting feedback but we never heard from them and that stalled the project,” he added.

At the beginning of the year, management of the Kejetia Market procured over 1,000 single meters to be used by each shop to facilitate the measurement of individual electricity consumption.
But the purchase of the meters by shop owners has seen a drastic decline with a significant number of the meters still in stock.

Managing Director of the Kumasi City Markets, Edmond Kofi Duffuor indicated that the traders claim to be overburdened by the debts and exorbitant cost of the new meters, hence their reluctance to purchase their separate meters.

“The traders are complaining the meters are expensive and already they are burdened by their outstanding bills. So, if they are able to pay up the debts, then hopefully everyone can get their meters,” he said.

Reflecting on the incident, she recounted how a date night with her then-boyfriend quickly turned into a high-stakes escape from law enforcement.

According to Efia Odo, during their drive, her ex-boyfriend ran a red light, attracting the attention of the police.

Instead of pulling over as expected, he continued driving, prompting her to question his actions. It was then that she learned a shocking truth—her partner was an ex-convict, and the car they were in had been stolen.

“I was on a date with this guy, and while driving in New York, he ran a red light,” Efia Odo shared during an interview on 3xtra.

“The police were after us for a traffic violation, but he refused to stop. When I asked why, he admitted the car was stolen, and he couldn’t afford to get caught. I had no idea about his past or that we were driving a stolen vehicle.”

The situation escalated as her boyfriend eventually slowed down, abandoned the car, and fled the scene.

Fortunately for Efia Odo, she was not held accountable for the incident due to her young age at the time.

Camidoh apologises for smoking and ‘kenkey cooking’ analogy https://www.adomonline.com/camidoh-apologises-for-smoking-and-kenkey-cooking-analogy/ Fri, 09 Aug 2024 15:44:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2431664 Ghanaian artiste, Camidoh has rendered an apology for a statement he made about smoking recently.

In an interview with Joy Prime, he had compared smoking to kenkey sellers working in a smoky environment.

Camidoh told Roselyn Felli that while general advice discourages smoking due to its adverse effects on the lungs, there are other activities, like cooking kenkey, which also involve exposure to smoke.

He suggested that the perception of smoking’s harm could vary and should be individually assessed.

“Not everything that is portrayed as negative is negative. Generally, they say we shouldn’t smoke because it’s bad for our lungs. How about our parents who have been cooking kenkey? You see them when they are making kenkey, you see how smoky it gets? I just want to tell you, you don’t have to dwell on that…It is not bad in my eyes,” he said.

After the interview, Camidoh received a lot of flak on social media.

He has therefore rendered an apology to his fans for the comment, indicating that his justification of the act was wrong.

“Hey yall. I just want to acknowledge that I made an analogy about smoking in a recent interview, and, in hindsight, I realize it was a poor choice and genuinely quite dumb. I’m sincerely sorry for that, and I want to formally retract that statement, along with anything I might have said in its defense. Love, Midoh,” he wrote on X.

Camidoh who released the track ‘Nothing Last Forever’ a few months ago has revealed that the song is about a heartbreak he experienced, which caused him “real pains” that led him to smoking for remedy.

Health professionals have strongly opposed this view, reinforcing that smoking is indeed detrimental to health.

They highlight that smoking poses significant health risks, including lung cancer and other types of cancer.

Additionally, smoking has severe impacts on eye health, increasing the risk of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, dry eye syndrome, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, Graves’ ophthalmopathy, and optic nerve damage, all of which can lead to vision problems or loss.

Efia Odo has consistently stated on various platforms that she shares a close bond with the rapper.

The two have been frequently seen together at events and in photos, often appearing friendly and stylish.

Also, Efia has also been known to publicly support many of his songs. However, she once mentioned that their relationship ended due to undisclosed reasons.

On Thursday, August 8, Efia confirmed in a viral podcast that she was never in a romantic relationship with the “Grind Day” hitmaker. She emphasized that although she was fond of him, their connection never involved anything beyond friendship.

In contrast, Kwesi Arthur has reportedly expressed his displeasure with Efia Odo for allegedly using his name to gain attention on social media.

He has warned that, he may take legal action to prevent her from mentioning his name.

In response, Efia Odo clarified that she never mentioned Kwesi Arthur’s name when discussing a secret affair with a musician that left her heartbroken in August 2022.

Therefore, she questioned why Kwesi Arthur would be upset over the issue, asserting that she has never used his name to seek clout or defamed him in any way thus sees no basis for any legal proceedings.

I’m one of the luckiest actors Ghana has produced – Fred Amugi https://www.adomonline.com/im-one-of-the-luckiest-actors-ghana-has-produced-fred-amugi/ Fri, 09 Aug 2024 09:23:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2431339 Veteran Ghanaian actor, Fred Nii Amugi has described himself as one of the most fortunate actors to emerge from Ghana’s film industry.

In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, the celebrated actor said he learnt his craft on-the-job because he never attended the School of Performing Arts.

Despite this, Mr Amugi credits his success to hard work and discipline, which have allowed him to excel and master the art of acting, earning him a distinguished place in the industry.

“I was taught all the disciplines that go with acting, and many think I was at the School of Performing Arts, which I never was. I’m one of the luckiest actors Ghana has produced. In those days, the lecturers at the School of Performing Arts served as my mentors so, I had my tuition outside the school,” he shared.

Mr Amugi emphasized the importance of absorbing and following the guidance of directors, a practice that was crucial to his own career.

However, he also expressed concern about a troubling trend among some of today’s industry players, who he claims resort to “juju” (witchcraft) to advance their careers, undermining the growth of the industry.

“We hear about people using ‘juju’ to get roles and other things. There is a speck of truth in every rumour that you hear. So, if you’ve heard people say it, it means something of that nature is happening, but when you have a good heart, God watches over you,” he noted. “I ask myself, if I get a promotion and you think I didn’t deserve it, so you cut me off. I’m dead and gone.

“You’re not going to take that seat anyway, so what’s your problem? God doesn’t like competition. He knows you cannot compete with Him, but when you bring these things, He would want to show you a few things that will tell you that what you’ve gotten to will not help, and this is the result now” Mr. Amugi added.

In a strongly worded statement, Kwesi Arthur expressed his frustration with the ongoing situation, stating that he has been silent for too long while his name is continually exploited for marketing and publicity purposes.

The rapper accused Efia Odo and her team of deliberately using his name as a promotional tool, particularly when releasing new music or shows.

He lamented that despite the repeated allegations and scenarios involving him, many people remain unaware of the manipulation at play.

His frustration also extended to those in his circle who have remained silent on the matter, as well as fellow artists and colleagues who continue to associate with Efia Odo despite her alleged attempts to tarnish his reputation.

Kwesi Arthur issued a stark warning to young men in the industry, urging them to be cautious in their associations and to avoid being manipulated for social media clout.

Furthermore, Kwesi Arthur made it clear that he will not tolerate any further attempts to use his name for personal gain, stating that any future allegations or comments about him will be addressed through legal channels.

The rapper’s outburst comes in the wake of a recent podcast where Efia Odo spoke about an ex who broke her heart despite her efforts to support him financially and emotionally.

While netizens speculated that Kwesi Arthur was the ex in question, Efia Odo later clarified that she was referring to her previous lover, Revlo, not Kwesi Arthur.

Next NDC gov’t will revitalize the film industry – Kafui Danku https://www.adomonline.com/next-ndc-govt-will-revitalize-the-film-industry-kafui-danku/ Thu, 08 Aug 2024 16:39:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2431030 Ghanaian actress, Kafui Danku has expressed optimism that the Ghanaian film industry could see significant improvement if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the upcoming December 7, election.

Kafui acknowledged that, the film industry has faced numerous challenges, leading to its slow progress.

Despite these persistent issues, she remains hopeful that an NDC victory will bring positive change.

“Funding and distribution have always been challenges, but things have only gotten worse; the situation has further declined. I was hoping for improvement, but if we all stop putting in effort or lose our passion, it will never get better. So, we need to keep working, continue doing our part, and perhaps try something different to see if it brings a positive change.

“I’m still hopeful that things can improve, especially if my party wins. When the NDC is back in power, it will get better,” she expressed in an interview on Hitz FM.

The filmmaker also believes that the NDC’s Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama’s ideas hold great promise for the arts industry.

“I’ve been closely following John Mahama’s campaign, his posts, and everything he’s been doing. He’s very passionate about our industry. I’ve heard him talk about how he can’t wait for us to have access to 5G so we can create content. He has plans for us. You’ve probably seen in the news how he’s supported veteran actors. It’s clear he has a passion for the arts and cares about those who paved the way. So, I know that when he’s back in power, he will do something to make things better,” she said.

She further commented on the economic conditions under the New Patriotic Party, which she believes have been unfavourable to Ghanaians.

“I am Ghanaian. I live in Ghana. I work in Ghana. I eat and breathe in Ghana. Are you not feeling the heat? Let’s just go back to the basics. During a different era, we had a more stable exchange rate; it was much better. I was working on a project that got stuck because of fluctuating quotes. When I save money for a project, by the time I want to proceed, the costs have changed again. The cost of living has really affected me over the past few years. A lot has happened. So, I believe change will be better,” she added.

Thousands turn out for anti-racism demonstrations, thwart far-right protests across UK https://www.adomonline.com/thousands-turn-out-for-anti-racism-demonstrations-thwart-far-right-protests-across-uk/ Thu, 08 Aug 2024 15:25:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2430938 Thousands of anti-racism protesters have taken to the streets across the United Kingdom to counter a spate of far-right rallies planned to target immigration centres, seeming to thwart what looked set to be another day of rioting.

After days of violence spurred by disinformation around a deadly stabbing attack, police had braced for another night of unrest on Wednesday. Far-right groups on social media had called for protests to target visa processing centres and immigration lawyers’ offices at more than 100 sites around the country at 8 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET).

But by the early evening, thousands of counter-protesters had gathered at more than a dozen cities to guard the immigration centres and prevent them being targeted by the far right.

“There are many, many more of us than you,” crowds chanted at the anti-racism demonstrations across the country, bolstered by a markedly stronger police presence than over the weekend, and with virtually no sign of any far-right supporters.

Whether Wednesday’s counter-protests represent a turning point is not yet clear, but fears of another night of unrest have abated for now. The fizzling out of the planned protests will come as a major relief for the new Labour government, and for communities that had prepared for the worst.

It may also be a sign that many have been deterred from taking to the streets, after previous far-right protests turned violent and hundreds of rioters were arrested over the weekend, with some already receiving prison sentences.

Businesses in Walthamstow had boarded up earlier Wednesday, in preparation for planned far-right protests.

In Walthamstow, east London, the immigration centre was entirely boarded up, protected by a heavy police presence and surrounded by around three or four thousand counter-protesters.

“We today have got such brilliant numbers in our community,” an organizer shouted through a megaphone to a hastily organized crowd. “We have shown them whose streets these really are. These are our streets.”

Ahmed Hussain, 31, said he had come out to support the counter-protesters because “when you don’t, the fascists feel emboldened.”

The worst of the past week’s violence was concentrated in the north of England. In Rotherham on Sunday, far-right rioters set fire to a hotel used to house asylum seekers as more than 200 people cowered inside. Large crowds of people shouting “enough is enough” and “get ’em out” were also seen clashing with police in several other cities.

In Sheffield, a city a few miles south of Rotherham, residents told CNN they had felt terrified by the outbreak of violence, which they said they felt had emboldened racist behaviour.

“I normally walk through this city centre all the time,” said Nadeem Akhtar, 18, who has lived in Sheffield his whole life. “But now, recently, even my mum’s been saying to me, don’t be going out so much, because you never know what could happen.”

Akhtar had gathered with friends midday Wednesday in the city centre to demonstrate against a planned far-right protest. Unlike last week, where protests across the country were allowed to boil over into racist violence, the Sheffield demonstration was overseen by a huge police presence separating the protesters and counter-protesters.

At least three right-wing demonstrators were arrested during altercations between the two groups. As one man was escorted away by police, he called out: “I ain’t done nothing. Double standards.”

CNN heard this nickname repeatedly in Sheffield and Rotherham. It has even been echoed by Elon Musk in a post on X, the website he owns. Musk claimed that “civil war is inevitable” in response to a post blaming the violent demonstrations on the effects of “mass migration and open borders.”

At the counter-protest in Sheffield later Wednesday evening, one of the speakers criticized Musk’s comments. “The richest man in the world is stirring the pot for a race war,” he said.

Portia Asare makes shocking revelation about Kumawood [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/portia-asare-makes-shocking-revelation-about-kumawood-video/ Wed, 07 Aug 2024 11:30:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2430213 Kumawood actress, Portia Asare Boateng has revealed the challenges plaguing the Kumawood movie industry.

In an interview with Ahodwo TV, Portia attributed the decline of the Kumawood industry to internal conflicts and spiritual sabotage.

She explained that, the lack of unity and animosity among colleagues have negatively affected both the production and quality of Kumawood films.

“People are asking why Kumawood is struggling. It’s because of hatred! Some use spiritual means to undermine their colleagues instead of supporting one another,” she stated.

Portia shared personal experiences of being targeted by peers who employed spiritual means to hinder her progress.

“People I trusted and used to dine with were among those who tried to harm me using witchcraft. I was shocked. If you destroy me, you can’t replace me. Each person’s work is unique, so why resort to such measures?” she quizzed.

While she refrained from naming specific individuals involved, her revelations have raised concerns among Kumawood fans, who lament the industry’s decline.

What will the NPP be admitting to if they apologise? Asks Dr Asah-Asante https://www.adomonline.com/what-will-the-npp-be-admitting-to-if-they-apologise-asks-dr-asah-asante/ Tue, 06 Aug 2024 16:43:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2429964 Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has questioned what the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be admitting to if they issued an apology for the current economic hardship.

This Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong wants the NPP to acknowledge the current economic hardships in the country and apologise.

“Let’s go out there with humility, apologise to Ghanaians, and admit your mistakes before you can convince anybody to vote for you. If we ignore the hardships Ghanaians are going through, they will never accept what we are saying.”

But according to Dr Asah-Asante, would such an apology acknowledge mismanagement of the economy or other factors would be blamed.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on August 6, he said, “If you want to render an apology, we want to know a few things. Which of the problems we are facing do you want to admit that you have caused? Are they saying they have mismanaged the economy? Or are they still talking about the fact that it is Russian-Ukraine war?”

“If they want to apologise, we want to know. They should come clean and then be able to give us all the details that, we are apologising for our part, then we know,” he said.

He also pointed out that while an apology might not guarantee acceptance from the public, it is an important aspect of good governance.

“The fact that you have apologised does not mean that people will accept. But it’s a good thing in governance that you admit your fault. Whether people take it or not is another issue but at least you have come to what Aristotle calls self-introspection. You have examined your life and then you are coming out.

“Even though this one is at the instance of Kennedy Agyapong and all that, it is still within the party,” he said.

Mr Kwarteng in a statement titled “To break the eight, we must first break the norm”, called on the incumbent NPP to address some critical issues if it intends to break the eight-year election cycle.

Among other things, he passed a damning judgement on Ghana’s economy saying it has been run like a Ponzi scheme by successive governments.

Many have commended the MP for being bold enough to take on his party for its flaws.

Listen to what the MP had to say about his statement which he claimed was solely an internal party document but found its way into the public domain.

The EC was also urged to uphold its mandate with integrity, ensuring that the elections are conducted in a manner that reflects the will of the people.

Rev. Ahelegbe expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to manage the electoral process effectively but stressed that vigilance is necessary to prevent any potential disruptions.

Efia Odo, in her fervent support for King Promise for the TGMA Artiste of the Year, called out Stonebwoy and the award’s board.

Efia Odo said Stonebwoy, being an older artiste, should pave the way for emerging acts to lead the industry.

She admitted that her comments calling Stonebwoy old and questioning his achievements were inappropriate and out of character.

“When I am a fan of someone or my friend, I go hard for that person. I was rooting for King Promise and in the process, I spoke ill on his [Stonebwoy] name in public, so I will apologize in public.”

She added that, her apology was late because she had not been in the public eye or on TV recently.

Efia Odo said she never meant to disrespect a senior person in the industry like Stonebwoy.

“What I wanted to say is I see him to be bigger than VGMA, I see him beyond the Ghanaian industry, and I wish he gets to where we know he is supposed to be” she added.

Taking full accountability for her actions, Efia Odo said her apology is sincere and not coerced.

Richard Jakpa was dismissed over persistent offences and misconduct – GAF https://www.adomonline.com/richard-jakpa-was-dismissed-over-persistent-offences-and-misconduct-gaf/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 19:35:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2423351 The Military High Command has confirmed that the 3rd accused in the ongoing ambulance trial, Richard Jakpa, was dismissed from the Ghana Armed Forces based on persistent offences and acts of misconduct.

Richard Jakpa vehemently denied ever seeing the supposed letter confirming his dismissal from the military since he left the service 17 years ago.

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah on Thursday, June 27, tendered in evidence Richard Jakpa’s supposed dismissal letter from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Mr Jakpa’s lawyers argue these claims aim to discredit his testimony in the trial involving the Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

In court on Thursday, July 18, Secretary to the Military High Command and custodian of documents at the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Adu Gyamfi discounted Richard Jakpa’s allegation that he was never given a letter relating to his dismissal.

Addressing the issue of whether or not the alleged misconducts were stated in the document and copied to Mr Jakpa, Nana Adu averred that the military does not put out offences in release instructions.
“Before such a letter would be written about an officer, he would have been taken through a series of processes. When officers commit offences, there are several interviews conducted. These interviews are documented and kept on record. These records are kept, and if nothing happens again, the records are discarded. But if the conduct continues then, the document is referred to in sanctioning the officer. Formal and informal interviews of the accused did not yield any results hence his dismissal”, he explained.
He continued, “Upon persistent offenses and misconducts, such a letter is written. The misconduct of the said officer will be at the officer’s unit before the unit will write to the general administration.”

The conduct of Mr Jakpa in the regiment over the period, he said, was not only unacceptable but smacked of indiscipline.

He recounted a series of misconducts kept on the records of Mr Jakpa.

“Mr Jakpa failed to return to his unit after taking part in officers’ promotion exams. After attending the course in Accra he failed to return to the unit. In addition to these acts, he was indebted to the tune of 400 dollars involving a Lebanese, an act that became notorious in his unit and the whole military command because of his refusal to repay the money to the businessman. This was settled by an officer.”

Asked whether Mr Jakpa was given a copy of the letter, Mr Adu Gyamfi confirmed that “Lieutenant Jakpa”, the third accused was given a copy of that report.

“He was granted a loan of $400 from the unit PRI. The money was granted to the officer (Richard Jakpa) when he was in financial difficulties. Upon persistent demands, he failed to pay the loan. In 2007, the money was converted into cedis and was deducted from his salary.”
The document of his indebtedness in 2004 was tended into evidence by the prosecution. The court, thus, admitted the document on his indebtedness into evidence.
The witness, Air Commodore Nana Adu Gyamfi was discharged.
Upon his discharge, counsel for the accused contended that they still needed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) himself to answer some questions. This was objected to by the Attorney General saying the CDS at this material moment is not a material witness.

But the court indicated that judging from the nature of the case being criminal, if the accused says he needed the CDS, their wishes should be granted.

The case was adjourned to July 23, 2024, after the list of persons who have been invited to testify before the court was thoroughly discussed. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; Alex Segbefia, and Samuel Silas Mensah are among the persons due to mount the witness box.

Kumasi public toilet operators announce 25% fee hike https://www.adomonline.com/kumasi-public-toilet-operators-announce-25-fee-hike/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 07:27:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2421165 The Kumasi Sanitation Awareness Association in the Ashanti Region has announced a 25 per cent increase in the fees for public toilets and urinal facilities within the Kumasi metropolis.

Previously, facilities using toilet rolls charged GH¢1.50, which has now been raised to GH¢2. The cost for facilities using toilet paper has increased from GH¢1.30 to GH¢1.50.

Owusu Takyi, the Chairman of the Association, in an interview with Class FM said the fee hike is due to the current increase in the prices of goods and services.

He noted that, the cost of dislodging the facilities has risen from GH¢800 to GH¢1,200 and that maintenance, electricity, and water bills have also seen significant increases.

Mr Takyi emphasised that the fee increase was necessary to ensure the Association could continue to operate and provide better services to its customers.

Despite initial complaints from users about the price hike, he said they have since understood the need for the new charges to sustain operations and maintain service quality.

Efia Odo criticizes new social media trend involving nun outfits https://www.adomonline.com/efia-odo-criticizes-new-social-media-trend-involving-nun-outfits/ Tue, 25 Jun 2024 00:21:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2412851 Ghanaian socialite and media personality Efia Odo has publicly condemned a new social media challenge that involves women wearing nun outfits.

Taking to her social media platforms, Odo expressed her disapproval, describing the Kiki Challenge as disrespectful to Christianity.

In a series of posts, Efia Odo did not hold back her thoughts on the matter.

“That Kiki challenge is a disgusting challenge. Do all the sexy sh*t y’all want but leave Christianity and the church out of it. Y’all not afraid of God and will do anything ‘cuz it’s a trend,” she wrote, highlighting her frustration with the trend that she believes mocks religious practices.

Efia Odo further distanced herself from the challenge, stating, “I’ve never been in a nun’s dress. I’ve never been the type to directly play in God’s face. The plan is not to stay in sin, but to move towards a path of righteousness.”

Meanwhile, she emphasized her commitment to her faith and her journey towards a more devout Christian life.

Reflecting on her personal spiritual journey, Efia Odo shared her background and reconnection with her faith.

“I was born in a Christian home, I worshipped Jesus all my life. Yes, at one point I wanted to find God on my own and ran away from the church. I felt empty when I stopped worshipping Christ. Now I’m back in Christ and no one can tell me otherwise. If you think I’m brainwashed, then let me be, I don’t need to be saved.”

Her comments have sparked a variety of reactions on social media, with supporters praising her for standing up for her beliefs and critics arguing that her stance might be too harsh on those participating in the trend.
