Scores of residents have been left homeless as over 52 structures have been swept in a fire that gutted Ayigbetown, a suburb in the Tema metropolis.
Eye witnesses say the fire gutted a wooden structure Sunday night after a young man tried connecting a regulator to a gas cylinder close to an open fire. Here are some of the affected residents recounting the incident to Joy News.
Confirming the incident in an interview with the press, the Public Relations Officer for the Fire Service in the Tema region, Ebenezer Yenzu cautioned residents to observe safety standards when handling gas cylinders.
The NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Tema Central constituency, Ebi Bright chided government for not championing the housing needs of the squatters in that part of the city.
