Government is in negotiations with Mendel University in the Czech Republic to provide training and skill development to the 24 winners of this year’s national farmers day winners.
The Mendel University is one of the best university in the world in the field of Agriculture.
Government in an attempt to make agriculture more attractive to increase the food production in Ghana has announced a 1 million cedis scholarship package for the wards of the awardees at the 34th National Farmers Day celebration held in Tamale.
Announcing the package, the President said the scholarship package will cover tuition and all expense in any agriculture related study field from undergraduate level to the PhD level.
“The scholarship will span from undergraduate level to the PhD level in any agricultural related field of interest of the candidate,” the President stated.
The 34th National Farmers Day was held on the theme Agriculture: Moving Ghana Beyond Aid.
Confirming the scholarship package to the Journalist in Tamale, the National Director of the scholarship secretariats, Mr Kingsley Agyemang said with the world trend of events, Agriculture development has become a necessity.
He said Agriculture has become technology and for the best from the sector, government deems it necessary to improve the knowledge of farmers in the practice through the provision of adequate extension officers and skills.
According to him, for the right, and correct implementation and benefit of government policies in the agricultural sector, farmers will have to be well and adequately trained in modern farming practices hence the package to sponsor the wards of persons in the sector.
Meanwhile, Mr Kingsley Agyemang has revealed that there are no outstanding arrears of government scholarships and has assured that there is enough resource to ensure the sustainability of the 24 scholarship package announced by government for the wards of farmers and fisher folks.
