Scans done within 12 weeks of pregnancy more accurate – Gynecologist

An Obstetrician Gynecologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Felix Abeyifah Bowuo says pregnancy scans done within 12 weeks of Pregnancy is more accurate.

He has therefore advised pregnant women to begin antenatal care early.

According to Dr Bowuo, scans done after 12 weeks are not as accurate as the ones done within 12 weeks of Pregnancy.

Scans done within 12 weeks of pregnancy is the most accurate. So we advise that women must visit the hospital immediately they realise they have missed their period,” he said.

Dr Bowuo added that women with HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases must also go for antenatal care because there are special cares to help prevent mother to child transfer of the virus.

Mother to child transfer of HIV is still very high so we advise that women with such condition must come for antenatal care to help them save their babies from contracting the virus.”
