The British High Commissioner, Iain Walker, has started his 1,000km ride on a bicycle to raise funds in support of plastic surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The 10-day ride, dubbed the ‘Ghana Grand Tour’, started this week.
Describing it as “challenging”, the High Commissioner within minutes of touching down in Tamale, where he started his tour, visited a project site called Sama Sama. This is a project founded by a Brit-Ghanaian.
The project manufactures specially designed toilets for use by the locals.
During the visit, the High Commissioner was shown the full Sama Sama project range.
He told Joy News’ Kojo Yankson at the end of his visit that the innovation had been a success. The project has benefitted from funding from Global Affairs Canada.
Their Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Taylor, travelled from Canada to be with the envoy.
Below are some tweets from the High Commissioner:
Great to meet @valerielabi, the Brit-Ghanaian founder of @samasama_GH, who provide toilets to 36,000 people in 31 districts.

It was my honour to deliver books from @book_aid to @Afrikids in Tamale. Interesting chat with the children about our work on #education, the importance of children reading and how we can strengthen this partnership.

#TheGhanaGrand is off to an eventful start, and the elements came out to meet us in torrents. Thankful for the great people of Navarubie (prounounced Navaruwie) who came to help us overcome our first challenge and then cheer us on! pic.twitter.com/xBUrHg8Cxw
