The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has expressed his deep concern and called for swift action regarding the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from the Tema Port. He described the situation as “mind-boggling” and “completely unacceptable.”
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, April 5, Gyamfi commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for his transparency and proactive approach in handling the issue.
He praised the Minister not only for overseeing the investigations conducted by the committee but also for escalating the matter to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for further investigation.
“This is mind-boggling, this is completely unacceptable, and I’m happy that the Minister for Energy has been transparent and determined to get to the bottom of this,” Gyamfi said.
He added, “I am pleased that he has gone beyond the committee’s investigations and has written to the NIB to take this matter up.”
However, Gyamfi made it clear that neither the NDC nor the public will tolerate any delays or excuses in resolving the matter.
“We do not want any excuses,” he stressed. “The NIB must provide us with clear timelines. This cannot be treated as business as usual. The people deserve answers, and the law must be allowed to take its course.”
Gyamfi demanded to know who was responsible for the discrepancies, particularly those who may have breached public procurement laws during the awarding of contracts related to the missing containers.
“Let’s get to the bottom of this matter,” Gyamfi said. “We need to know who is responsible for this serious lapse. It’s time for the law of this country to work, and we will continue to push for transparency and accountability at every level.”
