Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George says he never sabotaged the former MP for the area, Mr E. T. Mensah.
Rather, he said the people gave him the mantle to take over from Mr Mensah as MP for the area.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Vim Talk show, the MP said he decided to contest for the Ningo Prampram constituency seat based on the advice of his friends and some other political leaders before the 2012 elections.
According to him, he supported Mr Mensah with all his links due to the social status of his family in the Ningo Prampram constituency to win the 2012 election because he (Hon Mensah) had assured him (Hon Sam George) he wouldn’t contest in the years ahead.
The MP said he officially informed Mr Mensah of his intention to contest in 2015, but Mr Mensah disagreed because he wasn’t ready to step down.
He added that after the defeat of Mr Mensah, both parties have been at loggerheads.
“I didn’t defeat him, the people chose who they wanted. It wasn’t a contest between Hon E.T. Mensah and I, it was a decision of the people on who to serve them. Nobody can crown himself king, unless God does. And He does that through people,’’ he noted.
He revealed that, he sought the aid of several prominent people including Bishop Palmer Buckle, some chiefs from the Ningo Prampram constituency and late Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur to intervene on his behalf.
The MP added that the late Mr Amissah-Arthur set up a committee to resolve the issues between the two parties but to no avail. He further added that he has therefore decided to let sleeping dogs lie.
He denied the accusation that he insulted Mr Mensah and said he accords the necessary respect to him even after all the brouhaha.
