Sam George accuses Chief Justice of obstructing Anti-LGBTQ bill [Listen]

-

The lead advocate for the anti-LGBTQ bill, Samuel Nartey George, has accused the Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo for allegedly obstructing the Anti-LGBTQ bill case.

Mr. Nartey George claims that the Chief Justice’s actions are delaying the bill’s transmission to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his approval.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, expressed frustration over the indefinite adjournment of the injunction ruling related to the anti-LGBTQ bill.

He argued that, the Chief Justice’s actions appear to be an obstruction to justice.

“It doesn’t make sense that the ruling on the injunction placed on the anti-LGBTQ bill has been adjourned sine die. The Chief Justice seems to have an agenda against the bill. The Supreme Court has no power to injunct Parliament; it is an abuse of power, capricious power. We expect the Chief Justice to demand accountability. The delay deprives Parliament and undermines the process” he said.

Mr. George said he never expected that action from the Chief Justice.

“I didn’t expect this level of recklessness from the CJ. Everyone is endorsing us, and we want a timeline. The priorities of our Chief Justice should be watched properly” he stated.

The Supreme Court has postponed its ruling on injunction applications filed by Dr. Amanda Odoi and broadcast journalist Richard Sky, which seek to halt the bill’s progress.

The court plans to deliver the ruling alongside its final judgment.
