Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for what he describes as severe economic mismanagement, which has led to widespread hardship for Ghanaians.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Bodi, Western North Region, on Wednesday, November 13, Mahama pointed to soaring food prices as a clear sign of the NPP’s economic failings.
He specifically highlighted the rising cost of kenkey, a popular Ghanaian staple, noting that its price has increased from GH₵1 during his administration to GH₵5 under the current government.
Mahama stressed that Ghanaians deserve better and should not have to bear the burden of rising living costs due to poor economic policies. He urged voters to reflect on these issues as they head to the polls.
“They [NPP] have not fulfilled the promises they made. They’ve mismanaged our finances, leaving us with severe hardships and mounting debt. They once told us we were ‘sitting on money.’ Today, the price of kenkey has skyrocketed, making it difficult for people to afford even a single ball. When the NDC was in power, kenkey was GH₵1; now it’s GH₵5, and I hear some places are even selling it at GH₵10,” he said.
