Richard Akpokavie elected as new GOC president

Richard Akpokavie has been elected as the new president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), securing a commanding victory with 44 votes against Michael Aggrey’s 19.

Saturday’s triumph marks a major comeback for Akpokavie, who narrowly lost the presidential race four years ago, falling short by just seven votes to former president Ben Nunoo Mensah.

Akpokavie brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the GOC’s General Secretary from 2017 to 2021.

He later challenged Ben Nunoo Mensah in the 2021 presidential election.

Beyond administration, Akpokavie boasts a strong sporting background, having captained Ghana’s national hockey team during his playing days.
