The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called for the dissolution and review of the National Schools Inspectorate Agency (NASIA).
According to NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu, NASIA has failed to oversee the upgrading of school infrastructure and standards despite collecting fees from private schools.
Parliament recently passed the new Education Act 2020, Act 1023, which aims to establish regulatory bodies for the education sector.
These bodies are expected to formulate national policies to improve education in the country.
NASIA is one such body, tasked with supervising infrastructure upgrades and maintaining standards in schools.
Mr. Carbonu suggested that the government should dissolve NASIA immediately due to its lack of collaboration with teacher unions.
In an interview with Adom News, he stressed the need for a review of NASIA’s entire concept, as it has not achieved its intended purpose and teacher unions have not had the opportunity to address educational challenges with the authority, thus hindering efforts to maintain school standards.
Mr. Carbonu also criticized the Ministry of Education for not recruiting qualified educationists for NASIA.
“We need to examine the qualifications and competencies of those running NASIA to determine whether they are adequately suited to inspect education,” he said.
Mr. Carbonu has called for an immediate review of NASIA’s operations to achieve better results.
