The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Chief Executive Officer of gold dealership firm, Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah, was in custody at the United Arab Emirates, days before an arrest warrant was issued for him in Ghana.
A press statement issued by the Service’s Public Affairs Director-General, ACP David Eklu said the Menzgold CEO has been in the custody of Dubai police for at least one month.
The fugitive was arrested on December 7, 2018, the police statement said, confirming the fact that at the time a circuit court had issued a warrant for his arrest January 9, 2019, he was already in custody elsewhere.
Even though the police statement said “engagement on the next steps have commenced, it failed to give details of such engagements.
As it stands now, it is unclear whether NAM 1 will be deported to Ghana to face the full rigours of Ghanaian law or he will remain in the UAE to face charges of gold-trading fraud as alleged by Emirati authorities.
