Reverend Stephen Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, has shared the immense grief he has experienced following the death of his mother, Madam Deborah Wengam.

Describing her passing as the most devastating event of his life, Reverend Wengam reflected on the profound sorrow he felt during a solemn funeral service held in her honour on Saturday, January 25, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The service, which was attended by several dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, featured moving tributes, spiritual reflections, and heartfelt messages celebrating the life and legacy of Madam Deborah Wengam.

In an emotional tribute, Reverend Wengam found comfort in scripture, quoting Psalm 116:15-16:
“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the LORD.”

He noted that these verses brought him solace and strengthened his faith during his time of grief.

Addressing the mourners, Reverend Wengam openly shared the emotional strain of losing his mother, revealing the challenge of balancing his role as a spiritual leader while coping with his personal loss.

“As the son of this precious woman, the only surviving son, I cannot pretend that I am the strongest man,” he said, his voice thick with emotion.

Madam Deborah Wengam was remembered as a devoted mother, a pillar of strength, and a symbol of faith and selflessness. Her unwavering dedication to her family and community deeply influenced Reverend Wengam’s leadership and ministry.

The funeral service was attended by a large crowd, including family, friends, clergy, and well-wishers from across the country, who came to honour and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.

Madam Deborah Wengam’s legacy, as shared by her son, will continue to inspire faith, resilience, and service to others.
