Rev. Osabutey proposes solution to Bawku conflict [Watch]

-

A former Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, has called for a deep exploration of the historical root causes of the Bawku conflict as the foundation for any lasting solution.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Rev. Osabutey lamented the persistent politicisation of the protracted conflict, which continues to claim lives and displace residents.

According to him, the issue has been overshadowed by political interference, making it difficult for meaningful dialogue to take place among the affected communities.

“There is a root cause we haven’t spoken about yet. Unfortunately, politicians turn to politicise the conflict which should not be so. If they leave it for the residents, they can resolve their own issues,” he said.

His remarks come at a time when violence in Bawku has intensified, leading to reported deaths of both civilians and security personnel.

The Ghana Police Service has raised concerns over the increasing attacks on officers and their families in the troubled area.

In response to the growing insecurity, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has imposed a ban on the movement of officers and their relatives into Bawku.

Officers already deployed in the area have also been instructed to wear full protective gear and move only under armoured escort.
