#ReOccupyJulorbiHouse: Brother of detained blogger speaks out

-

Brother of a detained protestor, Akwesi Addo has voiced his distress after his sister was arrested during a recent demonstration organized by Democracy Hub from September 21 to 23.

The protest aimed to address issues of economic mismanagement and other national concerns.

However, the second day of the demonstration saw tensions rise, culminating in clashes between protesters and Police, leading to multiple arrests.

According to Akwesi, his sister was filming a vlog for his Tiktok page at the time of her arrest.

“Someone watching her livestream called to inform me that she had been taken by the police. I couldn’t believe it; she wasn’t even part of the protest, just documenting it,” he said on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Wednesday.

He also mentioned that, his family faced difficulties in locating her after the arrest.

“We tried to follow up with the Police at the Greater Accra Regional Command, and they told us that they didn’t know where she was because the arrested individuals were dispersed across several police stations. We eventually found her at Kaneshie, but we were denied access to her.”

“Our major concern is her health. My sister has asthma and diabetes but hasn’t received her medication since being arrested. The arrested individuals have not been provided with food or water since they were detained, and my sister does not look okay,” he said.

He also expressed frustration over the lack of legal support for the detained protesters, stating that lawyers have not been allowed access to their clients, and the detainees have not been properly interrogated.

“The protestors’ lawyers have not been given access to them, and they have not been properly interrogated. Almost 12 people were given the same charges,” he noted.
