Renowned WBC International Boxing judge, Atta Eddie Pappoe, has called on the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to reduce Patrick Allotey’s ban.
Mr Allotey, 26, was captured in a viral video assaulting a football fan who has been identified as Michael Siaw at the Accra Sports Stadium during the ‘Super 2 Clash’ between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on January 26 which ended in favour of the Porcupine Warriors.
The victim, Mr Siaw, suffered a deep cut at his left side of his eye after Mr Allotey’s punches.
The Ghana GBA has placed a six-month injunction on the former WBO Africa Super Welterweight champion.
The suspension, which came into effect on February 6 after a meeting of the GBA executives and the boxer at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, is expected to end in August.
But, according to the international boxing judge in an interview with Joy FM over the weekend, the GBA must reconsider its decision of preventing the boxer from fighting for the next six months.
Mr Pappoe believes that within the six months, Mr Allotey can fight two bouts which will propel him to challenge for a world title, adding that the ban should be reduced to two months.
Mr Allotey, who was on ‘Ladies Time’ on Asempa FM on Saturday, apologised for his behaviour and implored the GBA to reduce his ban.
“I am sorry for actions,” he said.
“What I did was unacceptable but I am only imploring GBA to reduce my ban,” he added.
