The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Elvis Adjei Baah, says his outfit is not renovating the Azuma Nelson Sports Complex to score political points.
This comes after the Minister for Youth and Sports cut sword on Thursday to commence renovation works on the country’s oldest multi-sports facility complex in Accra after years of neglect.
”We are not revamping the Azuma Nelson Sports Complex just to score political points’’, Elvis told Asempa Sports.
“The Azuma Nelson Sports Complex is going to be transformed to a modern sports facility’’, he indicated.
He also revealed that, the Ministry wants to turn the Sports Complex around to serve the various national teams.
“When the facility is transformed, it’s going to host our national teams and federations, the situation whereby we will continue to pay for camping of our national teams will soon be a thing of the past”.
“This country needs to have a modern sports facility that can host our national teams and that’s exactly what we are going to do with the Azuma Nelson Sports Complex’’, he added.
The facility has been in a very deplorable state and has seen very little maintenance by the state since it was built in the 1970s.
