The directive, aimed at ensuring safety and accessibility, applies to signages that lack the assembly’s authorization and do not bear its official symbol.
The Coordinating Director of the assembly, Emmanuel Baisie, issued the directive during a stakeholder meeting with the Advertisers Association of Ghana (AAG).
He also urged advertisers to strictly adhere to the Ghana Standards Authority’s guidelines on outdoor signage to ensure consistency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining approved spacing between signages to prevent visual clutter and enhance the municipality’s aesthetic appeal.
Mr. Baisie further outlined procedures and timelines for acquiring signage permits, stressing the need for compliance to avoid penalties.
Significance
The meeting aimed to discuss best practices in the advertising industry, foster collaboration, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards while promoting responsible advertising within the municipality.
The Director of Physical Planning at KoKMA, Nayram Akutei, highlighted the need to harmonize outdoor advertising practices to create a well-organized and visually appealing urban environment that benefits businesses, residents, and visitors alike.
Demarcation
Advertisers, including Altimate Advertising Limited, 3 Wise, Baraf, and Niitex Ventures, called for a clearly defined demarcation of KoKMA’s jurisdiction to facilitate proper signage placement and ensure regulatory compliance.
They also advocated for enhanced communication and a stronger partnership between the AAG and the assembly to promote a more transparent and efficient regulatory process.
Furthermore, the advertisers emphasized the importance of regular stakeholder engagements to address emerging challenges, streamline operations, and stay updated on evolving policies and regulations.
