Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Abankwa has said the travel ban imposed on ministers is not the panacea to ending the drain on the public purse.
Rather, he suggested President Akufo-Addo reduce the 110 Ministers to enable him generate enough revenue for developmental projects.
“Honestly if the president would want to save the public purse as we’ve been told by government communicators, then reducing the number of ministers will help a lot” he said on Burning Issues Monday.

Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa who is Ranking Member of Foreign Affairs Committee also indicted the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare for failure to ensure ministers work in the interest of the state.
He expressed his disappointment in the office saying the travel ban directive from the President is an indictment on her because it is an indication she [Frema] has lost control
“This approach is honestly self-indicting especially if the office of the Chief of Staff was working, they would have approved the number of approvals and disapprovals to spell out appointees who will be traveling and not” he said.

Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa also called for a Constitutional amendment to restrict the president on the number of ministers he or she can appoint.
“Very soon we’ll hit 10,000 because the Constitution does not provide a ceiling for the number of ministers to have in a small country like Ghana and it’s time to amend the constitution” an additional comment he made.
Meanwhile, a lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University, Dr Joseph Ayensu has lauded the President for taking such a step which he believes would be the best means to check his ministers and all appointees.
