The Paramount Queen-Mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area in the Bono Region, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo II, has died.
She was 64.
The sudden incident occurred at the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani where she was receiving treatment for an illness.
The Sunyani Traditional Council and the Boahene Korkor Royal family who officially announced the death said the one-week celebration would be held in October.
The late Queen was known for her good works.
In 2013 she was honoured by Global Media Foundation, human rights and anti-corruption media advocacy organisation for her excellent leadership exhibited as the Queen mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
The Queen was inducted into the GLOMEF Hall of Fame a year after receiving the award.
The Citation described Nana Yaa Nyamaa as a compassionate humanitarian whose life has been dedicated to the pursuit of justice, an advocate for children and women’s rights as well as peacebuilder.
In 2017, Nana Yaa Nyamaa initiated the “Keep Sunyani Clean Campaign” to rid the city of filth and bring back its beautiful scenery.
She collaborated with a youth association; ‘Hand In Hand’, the Sunyani Traditional Council and the Sunyani Municipal Assembly and provided waste bins at vantage points on the streets of Sunyani.
She left behind four children, two females and two males.
Nana Yaa Nyamaa was installed Queen at age 17 and ruled for 47 years.
