A violent rainstorm has caused severe destruction in the Tutukpene community of Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, tearing off the roof of the only basic school in the area.

The storm, which struck on Friday evening, left students, teachers, and residents in shock as strong winds and heavy rainfall damaged school infrastructure, disrupting academic activities.

A visit to the community by Adom News’ Obrempongba Owusu revealed the extent of the  destruction, with classrooms exposed to the elements and learning materials destroyed.

Assemblyman for the area, Francis Adu, has made an urgent appeal to the Nkwanta South Assembly, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), NGOs and private institutions for support to restore the school.

According to him, the damage is extensive, putting the education of pupils at risk. He stressed the need for immediate intervention to repair the school and ensure classes resume without delay.

School Management Committee (SMC) members and community leaders also called on stakeholders to prioritize the safety and well-being of the children by assisting in the swift restoration of the school.
