Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo known in showbiz as Epixode has said that the ‘pull him down’ syndrome in the showbiz industry is responsible for the failure of many artistes to do well.
In an interview with Ghanaian lyricist and radio presenter, Pope Skinny on Adom FM’s ‘Kasahari Level’, the Dancehall artiste said a lot of feuds (beef) exist between various artistes and record labels across the country.
According to him, unlike other countries where big wigs in the entertainment industry strategize among themselves to make profit and promote each other, Ghanaian musicians love to fight and sabotage each other.
“We fight among ourselves rather than building strategies to make money. Some people [artistes] take a lot of things personal in the industry whiles others are making money out of it…,” he said.
He disclosed that countries like Jamaica deliberately plan constructive feuds between artistes to boost the excitement in their dancehall industry but in Ghana, some bloggers are quick to start up feuds between performers.
“We talk of Bonti killer, Beanie Man, Alkaline, Vybz Kartel and Movado planned concerts for artistes in Jamaica. Here, some bloggers start up fight between artistes and all that. We should have planned beefs – behind the scenes beefs – to make the industry active. It should be constructive…” he explained.
The ‘Avatar’ hit maker further urged fellow musicians to love and support each other regardless of their differences as this will provide great opportunities to send Ghanaian songs worldwide.
“We should love and support each other. It’s always been a blessing been a performer. Unity in the industry will move Ghana forward…” he said.
