The Provincial Grand Lodge South-East under the Grand Lodge of Ghana (GLOG) has supported two (2) hospitals, namely the Princess Marie-Louise Hospital in Accra and the Atua Government Hospital at Odumase-Krobo all within its jurisdiction, as part of its 2019-2020 annual Charity activity and the GLOG’s assistance to public health institutions in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
The PGLSE handed over the completed project to the authorities of the Princess Marie-Louise Hospital,within the premises of the hospital also known as Children Hospital on Wednesday 24th June 2020.
The project involved the replacement of the entire mosquito netting of the wards and offices of the hospital and the installation of six (6) units of Insect-O-Cutor electronic flying insect killing devices.
The project aimed at supporting the fight of government in curbing the malaria menace to the population and particularly to children who,according to the World Health Organization (WHO),are the first victims of this scourge, with over one million of them dying from the disease each year.
The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Brother Dzifa French Cudjoe was accompanied by the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Brother Godson Adadevoh and other officers of the Grand Lodge and the Province.
Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Hospital, Reverend Father Nii Lantey Campbell as well as the management and some staff and a representative of the Ministry of Health, Brother Dzifa French Cudjoe said the project was carefully selected by the Board of the Province against the background of the rise in malaria cases within the catchment area of the Hospital, and thus aimed at helping to reduce its mortality rate among the children.
Reverend Father Campbell, in his acceptance address, expressed the gratitude of the management and staff of the hospital to the Lodge for its timely support, which coincided with the 95th Anniversary of the establishment of Princess Marie-Louise Hospital, so named after the Granddaughter of Queen Victoria.
He described the support as “a noble and worthy gesture”, and urged the Lodge to continue supporting the Hospital to enable it pursue quality healthcare service delivery to needy families within its catchment area.
The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Maame Yaa Nyarko thanked the Provincial Grand Lodge South-East for selecting her facility as the 2019-2020 beneficiary of the yearly charity activity, adding that the project comes as a major relief package to the staff who are equally victims of the malaria. She pledged that the devices will be taken care of to last their life span.
Donation of a Set of PPEs to Atua Government Hospital at Odumase-Krobo
On Tuesday 21st July 2020, an eight-man Delegation of the Provincial Grand Lodge South-East,led by the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Brother Godson Adadevoh,was at the Atua Government Hospital at Odumase-Krobo, in the Greater Accra Region, to donate a set of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the Hospital to assist in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.The donation was in response to a distress call from the hospital authorities a couple of weeks ago for such an assistance.
At the brief ceremony held at the hospital, and in the presence of selected management and staff members, Brother Godson Adadevoh on behalf of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Brother Dzifa French Cudjoe and members of his delegation, congratulated the management and staff for their sacrifice and resilience as frontline workers in combating the pandemic, adding that the entire country owes them, and indeed all medical workers from all regions, tons of gratitude and God’s protection.The items donated included:
- Two (2) boxes of AK 57 – Catherine (surgical masks),
- Five (5) cartons of Latex medical examination gloves (containing 1000 gloves each),
- Five (5) boxes of KN 95 face masks (containing 40 pieces each)
- Three (3) infrared thermometers.
The Principal Health Service Administrator of the Hospital, Mr. Samuel Ghartey Frimpong, who received the PPEs on behalf of management and staff,expressed his profound gratitude to the Grand Lodge of Ghana for the timely intervention in their time of need, and promised that the items will be put to good use.
He informed the delegation that Atua Government Hospital serves a lot of patients in its catchment area and beyond, and therefore used the occasion to appeal to other well-meaning and charitable organizations to emulate the good example of the Province, to enable them to continue providing effective and quality healthcare service delivery to the population.
The Principal Pharmacist of the hospital, Mrs. Bertha Abakah, on behalf of management and staff, thanked the Deputy Provincial Grand Master and members of his delegation for their gesture and kind words, and wished them safe return to Accra.
