The Central Regional Fire Service Commander, ACDO Melinda Mary Attigah Mensah, has called on chiefs and district assemblies to provide structures for the establishment of fire stations in districts without one.
She lamented that several districts in the Central Region lack fire stations, and while her administration is eager to set up new stations, the major challenge remains the lack of infrastructure.
“We are ready to open fire stations in these districts, but we do not have the necessary structures to house them. We are therefore appealing to chiefs and district assemblies to provide the needed infrastructure so we can set up these stations,” she stated.
ACDO Attigah Mensah made this appeal during the launch of Fire Safety Week under the theme: “Safety – A Pillar of Development and Foundation of Our Security.”
She also announced that the Fire Service would conduct inspections of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fire certificates to enhance fire safety in the region.
Meanwhile, artisans at the Siwdu Magazine used the occasion to appeal to the Regional Command to establish a small fire post or station a fire tender at the magazine to enable a swift response in case of fire outbreaks.
They also called for intensified education on the importance of fire extinguishers in shops and workplaces.
