President John Mahama has appointed Professor Ernest Kofi Davis as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Professor Davis, who is the Provost of the College of Education Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), succeeds Dr. Eric Nkansah, who held the position until October 2022 under the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The appointment was confirmed by GES via a post on its Facebook page, alongside congratulatory messages for the new appointee.
Professor Davis holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia.
His appointment brings a wealth of academic expertise and professional experience to the role. He has been recognized as a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, a prestigious honor given to scholars who make notable contributions to education and research in Africa.
As a prominent member of the Ghana Mathematics Association, Professor Davis has been an advocate for excellence in mathematics education across Ghana.
He has also played key leadership roles in education research, notably serving as the Vice President of the Ghana Education Research Association (GERA-Ghana), an organization focused on improving educational policies and practices through research.
