The Institute of Journalism of the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UniMAC-IJ) has appointed Professor Christiana Hammond as its Rector.
Prof Hammond who is an Associate Professor in Intercultural Communication and Pragmatics is the first female to occupy the highest position of the university.
Her appointment was announced on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
In a short message, the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAC, Prof Eric Opoku Mensah congratulated Prof Hammond on her appointment.
He noted that, such an appointment reflects the university’s commitment to gender parity, academic excellence, and inclusive leadership.
Prof. Hammond’s academic publications include book chapters, chapters in well recognised issues including ORCID, ResearchGate, SAGE, and Academia.com.
She is also a gender advocate and a Public Speaker.
She has published extensively in areas such as identity studies, pragmatics and intercultural communication, metadiscourse, genre analysis, online dating, onomastics, cyber trolling and hate speech, and cultural shock and navigation process among others.
