The next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is committed to promoting responsible mining and addressing the ongoing challenges of illegal and irresponsible mining, also known as galamsey.
During an address to the people of Nkakaa in the Amenfi Central constituency, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, said it is important to ensure that miners adhere to regulations that protect the environment.
She outlined plans to introduce training programs designed specifically for small-scale and illegal miners, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to mine responsibly.
By doing so, the NDC aims to ensure that miners can continue their trade without further degrading the country’s rivers, forests, and agricultural lands.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also pointed to other key NDC initiatives such as the Women’s Development Bank, which is aimed at financially empowering women, and the Big Push program, which focuses on massive infrastructural development that will create numerous jobs across the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the public to vote for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming elections.
According to her, voting for the NDC represents a step toward resetting the nation’s course, fighting corruption, and addressing issues of poverty, hunger, and environmental destruction caused by irresponsible mining practices.
