Prof Opoku-Agyemang ends role as Chancellor of Women’s University in Africa

The running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has travelled to Harare, Zimbabwe, to formally end her duties as Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa.

According to a statement released by James Agyenim-Boateng, the spokesperson for the NDC running mate, the disengagement will enable Prof. Opoku-Agyemang to fully dedicate herself to the John Mahama for President 2024 campaign.

During her seven-year tenure as Chancellor, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang collaborated with the university’s management, Board of Trustees, and Council to restructure the institution, making it more efficient and financially self-sustaining.

The statement highlighted her leadership in ensuring the university catered to women who missed the opportunity to pursue higher education at a younger age but aspired to do so later in life, as well as to young women who had been excluded from high school.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also played a pivotal role in making the Women’s University in Africa more attractive to women by offering flexible learning options and designing hands-on programs to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

She will preside over her final graduation ceremony on August 30th before returning to Accra the following day.
