The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has confirmed that he declared his assets in line with constitutional requirements a day after assuming office.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Super Morning Show on Wednesday, February 19, Prof. Gyampo said, “I think it was the very day or the day after I was in the office.”
He explained that he initially asked his “friend Martin Kpebu to obtain the form” for him, but due to delays, he arranged for others to acquire it.
After filling it out, he personally contacted the Auditor-General to submit it. “Unfortunately, the Auditor-General was not in the office at the time, so he directed one of his officials to attend to me,” he said.
He added that he was issued a receipt as proof of submission, stating, “As a teacher, I have declared the little that I have.”
Prof. Gyampo stressed that asset declaration is a constitutional duty for public office holders and urged others to comply.
“I think the right thing to do is to abide by what the law says, so I just did it, and all others must do the same,” he stated.
Appointed by President John Mahama, Prof. Gyampo previously lectured at the University of Ghana.
The president has directed all public officials to declare their assets by the end of the first quarter of the year as part of efforts to curb corruption.
