Information Minister Mustapha Hamid has hinted that Parliament will consider the Right to Information Bill (TRI) this month immediately sitting resumes.
His comment follows today’s World Press Freedom Day celebration aimed at evaluating press freedom, defending the media from attacks and paying tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession.
Mustapha Hamid believes press freedom will advance profoundly should the Right to Information bill be passed.
The bill has been in Parliament for the past eight years and expectations that it would be passed in 2016 was quashed.
But Mustapha Hamid says the NPP government is keen on passing the bill and will not wait till the end of its tenure in office before considering it.
