President’s directive on alleged drug trafficking flight hopeless – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has raised serious concerns regarding President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for an investigation into the alleged drug trafficking and money laundering activities at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

In an interview with Adom News, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, questioned the validity of the President’s actions.

The Assin South MP claimed that the issue of illicit activities had worsened since the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed power.

“The issue of drug trafficking and money laundering has significantly increased since President Mahama came to power. It is crucial that National Security swiftly investigate these claims and provide answers to Ghanaians,” he stated.

He further urged National Security to provide an update regarding the counterfeit money and suspected gold bars discovered in a raid on a warehouse in Sapeiman, Ga South Municipality, on February 9.

During the raid, authorities intercepted twelve 20-foot shipping containers filled with bundles of fake US dollars hidden in wooden boxes, further embedded in cement to evade detection.

“National Security must immediately clarify whether the claims raised by the Minority are accurate and keep the public informed about the ongoing investigations,” he concluded.

Rev. Fordjour alleged at a press conference on Tuesday that an air ambulance and a private jet may have been involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.

The flights in question—AirMed flight N823AM and Cavok Air’s Antonov An-12B—allegedly landed at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria, Spain, before departing on March 25, 2025.

The former Deputy Education Minister noted that intelligence revealed the AirMed flight N823AM, an air ambulance, did not transport any patients but allegedly carried suspicious cargo suspected to contain cocaine and US dollars.

President John Mahama has since ordered National Security and relevant authorities to conduct a full-scale investigation into the allegations, directing them to cooperate fully with the lawmaker.
