Presidential aspirants are also citizens, not spectators – Mahama replies Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has parried off President Akufo-Addo’s subtle attempt to gag him and his colleague aspirants from contributing to national debates.

The former president did so by reminding the President that he and other aspirants were also “citizens and not spectators” and have a right to carry out the President’s own request as made at his swearing in.

Mr President, let us remind you that NDC aspirants are also citizens and urged us to be citizens and not spectators. You can choose not to listen or respond to us but eventually the people of Ghana will demand accountability from you,” Mr Mahama said.

The former president made the point while delivering his speech at the ongoing National Delegates Congress of the NDC at the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra.

President Akufo-Addo recently served notice that he wouldn’t respond to any of the NDC’s flagbearer aspirants until they were duly elected as presidential candidates.

I’m sure you have seen and heard some of the presidential aspirants of the leading opposition party taking jabs at my government in order, ostensibly, to prop up their campaign,” the president was quoted as saying.

The former president also berated the President of “clearing” his appointees of corruption.

We will fight corruption and make Ghana attractive again we have a track record of acting in the interest of Ghanaians,” he said.
