President John Dramani Mahama has directed city authorities to demolish structures built on waterways as the rainy season begins, aiming to prevent the devastation caused by recurring floods.
Speaking at the final Muslim prayers in Accra, the President noted that his administration prioritizes the safety of lives and properties over individual interests.
He added that recent rainfalls in parts of the country have heightened concerns about potential flooding, making it necessary for immediate action to be taken.
He instructed city authorities to clear waterways, unclog drains, and remove unauthorized structures, including those at Ramseyer sites, to prevent further obstruction of water flow.
He also stressed the importance of enforcing building regulations to ensure that such issues do not persist in the future.
President Mahama further called on the youth to be moderate in their celebrations, urging them to avoid reckless driving and dangerous motorcycle riding to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
He assured the public of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties as the country enters the peak of the rainy season.
