Ashanti Regional Minister designate, Dr. Frank Amoakohene is reaffirming the National Democratic Congress’s commitment to boosting developmental growth in the Ashanti region.
Describing President Mahama’s second administration as ‘legacy-focused’, the regional Minister-designate says he is poised to support the President accomplish his visions for the Ashanti region.
Dr. Amoakohene is assuring residents of honouring their campaign promises including the completion of most stalled projects in the region.
The Ashanti region is home to over 5 million inhabitants in Ghana, making it the country’s second most populous region.
But the region has over the years been challenged with infrastructural deficits under successive governments, especially in the healthcare and trade sectors.
The only biggest market in the region’s capital, the Kejetia Market was demolished in almost a decade ago to make way for renovation into a modern trading centre.
After the first phase of the market’s redevelopment, its second phase which was to accommodate more of the traders now sits uncompleted and covered in weeds.
Access to quality healthcare in the region has also been a drudgery to residents as the only modern hospital, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital grapples with congestion.
The Sewua and Afari Military hospital were to complement healthcare delivery to the region, but the two projects have also since not seen their commissioning.
Following his nomination by the President, Ashanti regional minister-designate, Dr. Frank Amoakohene has been outlining his priorities for the region once given the nod by Parliament.
“Everything the President spoke about; we are going to work on that. He made a strong promise that government is continuous. For that matter, every project that was started irrespective of the government, we need to go through to completion,” he said.
Dr. Amoakohene is assuring of accountability and commitment of the NDC government in the region.
“John Mahama in his first tenure was a lamb, but now he is coming as a lion. He is not going spare anyone who will come in his way so far as the progress of the nation is concerned. Because he is legacy focused,” he said.
The medical doctor’s nomination has been greeted with excitement from residents as they anticipate transformational growth for the region.
Dr. Amoakohene, deemed the youngest regional minister, is however courting support from the citizenry to accomplish his visions for the region.
