A battle between Manchester United and Newcastle United will headline Matchday 19 of the 2024-25 Premier League, with 10 fixtures played from Sunday 29 December to Wednesday 1 January.

Man United have had a torrid season to date, with new manager Ruben Amorim now fully aware of the massive job he has taken on in trying to get the Red Devils back to the top of English football.
That ambition will take at least a couple of years to achieve; more pressing in the short term is getting the team to rise in the Premier League standings, and a home clash against Newcastle represents the kind of match that they need to start winning regularly. The Uniteds will meet at Old Trafford in the early-evening kick-off on Sunday.
“I had this and worse in Sporting in the beginning,” said Amorim, who turned Sporting CP into the dominant force in Portugal after years in the doldrums. “The feeling for me is the same but for the world it’s completely different. You know Sporting in Portugal but Manchester [United] has a lot of attention. We have to manage to continue to do the same things and improve the team because this will turn around.”
Sunday also features Leicester City chasing points at home to champions Manchester City in their bid to secure Premier League survival; Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to North London; and Liverpool are away to West Ham United for a clash which the Reds will be highly confident of winning.
“We’re all enjoying it, [manager Arne Slot is] getting the best out of players, that’s all you want as a player. We’re all willing to learn to improve. That’s what you want, he’s someone who will coach that into us. Like you’ve seen, the lads have bought into it from day one,” said Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Monday has a trio of night matches, with the Man United v Newcastle clash preceded by Aston Villa hosting Brighton & Hove Albion, and Chelsea visiting Ipswich Town, while Wednesday 1 January – New Year’s Day – will see Brentford host Arsenal for a London derby.
