The derby between Manchester City and Manchester United will headline Matchday 16 of the 2024-25 Premier League season, which will run from Saturday 14 to Monday 16 December.

City and United will lock horns at the Etihad Stadium on the evening of Sunday 15 December, for what is set to be a key clash for both teams. While the Citizens are looking to fully recover from their stuttering form through November, the Red Devils are having an inevitably awkward adaptation to the tenure of new manager Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese coach got the better of his counterpart Pep Guardiola when Sporting CP thrashed City 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League (prior to Amorim departing from the Lisbon club for Manchester), but this will be a completely different challenge.
“I know it is frustrating for the fans but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games,” explained Amorim. “We are going to suffer for a long period. We will try to win games but this will take time. We have to risk it a little bit [now] and in the next year we will be better [otherwise] next year at the same stage we will be here with the same problems.”
The round opens on Saturday with a quartet of fixtures in the later afternoon, headlined by Arsenal and Liverpool hosting Everton and Fulham respectively. The Reds have enjoyed a fantastic first half of the campaign, but midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai insists they are keeping their heads down.
“It is a great feeling but it is the beginning of the season,” the Hungarian explained. “We just need to continue and not think where the other teams are.”
Saturday closes out with a potential thriller between Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa at the City Ground, while Sunday – aside from the Manchester derby – also features the latest edition of the rivalry between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, as well as two night games between Chelsea and Brentford (a West London derby) and Southampton hosting Tottenham Hotspur.
The round closes on Monday night with AFC Bournemouth hosting West Ham United, as Andoni Iraola looks to continue his fine work with the Cherries. The Spanish tactician has backed Evanilson to be prolific in front of goal going forward.
“I always love when my nine [striker] has chances, even if he misses, I think it speaks well about him,” said Iraola. “Even if they are clear with the quality he has, it’s like we said before, it’s a matter of statistics and he will score the next one for sure.”
